Using D-Mannose for Feline Cystitis.
One of our customers has contacted us recently after buying Natural D-Mannose to treat recurring Cystitis in her cat.
Alison Dunn originally came to us after trying various herbal tinctures. She wanted to know if D-Mannose could be used on animals. Since it had been successfully used in the treatment of cats, horses and squirrels it seemed clear that it would.
She agreed to try it and was enthusiastic about keeping a log of when and how much she gave her cat, so that the effects could be monitored and offered to others as a guide.
Below is her short-term log:
- 22/12/05: Began using D Mannose - one quarter of a teaspoon, at lunch time, in one teasp of cold water, which has been filtered and boiled.
The same again at 6:15pm.
In between this period cat slept and ate more than usual - I also gave her a vitamin tonic to promote appetite. Not going to the loo as many times nor is she pacing.
- 23/12/05: Half an anti-biotic, and a quarter teaspoon of D mannose and tonic given in the morning.
Feliway Diffuser placed in kitchen to reduce stress level by acting on pheromones.
Cats seems calmer, no blood in urine and reduced puddling around house. Sleeping more. Eating more. Gave another dose of D mannose at 8pm.
- 24/12/05: Had a quarter of a teaspoon of D mannose and tonic. Very quiet and less stressed. No blood and not as driven to visit the litter tray.
Will give second dose of D mannose later tonight. I also increased the wet food diet
- 25/12/05: – Merry Christmas – Had a quarter teaspoon of D mannose, antibiotic and tonic.
Very quiet and eating more. Likes turkey – Gave 2nd dose of D mannose at 6pm
- 26/12/05: - Gave D mannose, tonic - much calmer sight in the kitchen, no digging in litter tray so no bomb site to wake up to. No squeaking or flinching. Eating well. Reduced D Mannose to one per day.
- 27/12/05: Half an antibiotic, D mannose and tonic . Definitely working this time – calmer and sleeping more.
- 28/12/05: D Mannose and tonic – Eating well – playing with brother.
- 29/12/05: Antibiotic and D Mannose and tonic – the cat is definitely eating, sleeping and not showing any signs of cystitis.
- 30/12/05: Normal dose of D mannose and tonic. Sleeping on bed in daytime – back to being sweet, calm girl and the vet will not see her again for this problem.
As you can see from the above, her cat responded very well to D mannose treatment and was able to come off antibiotics after just over a week.
This is good to see, as a cat’s bladder is similar to our own.
This is the email we received after eight days.
“Hello
I thought I would send the journal I have been keeping to endorse D Mannose as a wonder for animals - as you have little written evidence I thought I would give you details for the dosages and if you require I can go into detail as my animal is 100% better and I want to make sure everyone knows how great this product is.
If you require any more info let me know
Best wishes Alison Dunn”
D-Mannose is recommended for treatment of Feline Cystitis, or ‘cat cystitis’, as well as for use on squirrels and horses.

Another customer reported great results with D-Mannose for her cat's cysitis:
"Here's another success story, I hope!
There is another variable involved but that has now been eliminated. My cat has been on D-mannose for nearly 2 weeks and the cystitis has cleared up completely. She is no longer trying to go to the loo every few minutes, she is not longer unable to hold it until she gets to the litter tray and she is now a much more happy cat than she previously was.
The other variable was the stress caused by outsider cat getting in and terrifying her. I bought a magnestised catflap and that has kept outsider cat out for a time so I wasn't sure whether she felt safer and consequently less stressful and as a result the cystitis went. But the outsider cat has demolished the new cat flap, has been headbutting and getting in for a week or so and my cat is still cystitis free so it must be the D-mannose. Thank you very much indeed."
